Traditional Indian breakfast bread made with whole wheat flour and potato

Aloo paratha is the all time favourite Indian breakfast. It’s eaten laden with butter and served with yoghurt on the side. This recipe is of Punjabi origin but is famous all around India.


  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying

For filling

  • 2 large potatoes boiled
  • 2 green chopped
  • 1 tsp dry mango powder
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp fresh or dried coriander powder
  •  1 tsp fresh or dried mint leaves
  • Salt to taste

Aloo Paratha Ingredients


  1. In a bowl mash the potatoes.
  2. Add the red chilli powder, dry mango powder, green chillies, coriander leaf and mint leaves.
  3. Add salt and mix everything very well. Keep aside.
  4. In a large bowl mix the whole wheat flour with salt and knead to a hard dough with water.
  5. Cover with a damp cloth and keep it aside for 10 minutes.
  6. Divide the dough into 4 portions.
  7. Make an indentation into a small portion and fill it with the potato mixture.
  8. Seal the dough
  9. Repeat for all the 4 portions
  10. Roll out each portion into a large flat round with the help of dry wheat flour.
  11. Heat a skillet and toast each rolled out dough till light brown spots appear.
  12. Fry each side with oil
  13. Serve hot

Serving Instructions

Serve it hot with raita
