Aloo Tikki is a famous North India snack. It is widely popular all around India. This is served with hot tea. There are two forms of Aloo Tikki available. You can either make a filled Aloo Tikki in which a filling is stuffed and a normal one. Both of the forms are quite popular.

  • 400g potatoes boiled and grated
  • 100g fresh or frozen green peas roughly chopped
  • 2 green chilli finely chopped
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger finely minced
  • 1 ½ tsp chaat masala
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • a pinch of asafoetida
  • 100 grams cornflour
  • ¼ cup finely chopped fresh coriander leaves
  • xalt to taste
  • oil 2 tbsp + for frying

Steps

  1. In a pan heat the 2 tbsp oil and add the cumin seeds. When they start to crackle add the asafoetida and ginger. Sauté for about a minute and add the roughly chopped green peas. Fry them till they are crisp.
  2. In a large bowl add the grated potatoes, green peas mixture, green chillies, chaat masala, cumin powder, salt, coriander leaves and cornflour.
  3. Mix everything well till it comes together.
  4. Take about 2 tbsp of the mixture and give it a shape of a cutlet. Keep aside.
  5. In a pan heat oil and shallow fry the Tikkis till each side is light golden brown in colour. You can also deep fry them if you want to.
  6. Serve hot with tomato ketchup or chutney.

Serving Instructions

Serve it hot with ketchup or coriander chutney along with hot tea.
