Khichuri is very famous in India and is strictly a home affair. You won't find this on any menu of restaurants. It's something which is made on rainy days or winters and acts as a comfort food. It is eaten with fried things like potato fries, brings fries and more.

Steps

  1. Wash the rice and lentils together and keep aside.
  2. In a pressure cooker heat up the oil.
  3. Add the red chillies, bay leaves and cumin seeds. sauté till they start to crackle.
  4. Add the onions and fry till hey are golden brown in colour.
  5. Add the ginger paste and sauté for another minute or two.
  6. Add the rice and lentils. Mix well.
  7. Add the peas, turmeric powder, salt and green chillies. Mix everything very well.
  8. Add 6 cups of water and pressure cook on a medium to high flame till you hear three whistles.
  9. Let the pressure cooker cool down.
  10. Open and serve the khicuri hot with dollop of ghee and fried stuffs.

Serving Instructions

Serve it hot with beguni, jhuro Aloo Bhaja .
