Dal Puri is a Bengali recipe which is like the normal Puri but is stuffed with Bengal gram mixture. It's simple and is filling. This is also a popular roadside snack in Bengal. You will find many people gathering to local snack shops to have dal Puri with Aloo Subzi.

Steps

  1. Soak the lentils in water overnight or for a minimum of 5 hours.
  2. Drain the water and grind it to a smooth paste preferably without the water along with the green chilli. You can add 1 tsp of water if it's not forming a paste.
  3. In a wok heat a tablespoon of oil and sauté the cumin seeds and asafoetida.
  4. Add the lentil mixture along with red chilli powder, Garam masala powder, salt, ginger paste and roasted cumin powder.
  5. Mix well and cook till the lentil mixture changes the colour and the water has completely evaporated.
  6. Remove and keep aside to cool. Divide it into 4-6 portion
  7. In the meantime in a large bowl add the plain flour, salt, carom seeds and oil.
  8. Mix till it resembles breadcrumbs.
  9. Add enough water to form a soft but not sticky dough.
  10. Divide it into 4-6 portions.
  11. Make a deep indentation into the dough and fill it with a portion of lentil mixture.
  12. Seal the dough .
  13. Roll it out with the help of oil and repeat for each of the dough.
  14. Heat enough oil in a wok and fry the Puri one at a time, Till they are fluffy and cooked.
  15. Remove and serve hot

Serving Instructions

Serve it hot with Aloo Subzi
