Uttapa is a traditional south Indian breakfast. It's originally made with rice and lentil paste which is fermented for 6 hours. It’s a long procedure and has to be made in large quantities. This recipe is the quick and easy version of uttapa made with semolina and varieties or vegetable.

Steps

  1. In a large bowl beat the curd and plain flour. Add the semolina and 1.2 cup water mix well and keep aside for 15 minutes.
  2. After 15 minutes the batter should be very thick.
  3. Add the salt, roasted and lightly crushed cumin seeds, and the remaining ½ cup of water.
  4. Mix well to make a smooth batter.
  5. In a skillet apply very little oil and spread evenly and heat it.
  6. Pour a ladle full of the batter and let it cook.
  7. Sprinkle the onions, bell pepper and green chillies on top while the top is still wet.
  8. Flip over and cook the other side.
  9. Serve hot

Serving Instructions

Serve it hot with sambhar, coconut chutney or even ketchup. You can also sprinkle grated cheese to make it extra special
