Toor dal is a very high protein lentils. In India dal is traditional dish served with rich spices over rice and is a staple in many Indian Restaurants. Toor dal is not only delicious, it also have a a number of health benefits. Now I am preparing Vankaya Pappu with toor dal.

Steps

  1. Put the toor dal, tomato, turmeric powder, tamarind, green chilies and brinjals with 1 1/2 cup of water in pressure cooker.
  2. Cover the lid and pressure cook until 3-4 whistles. Then switch off the flame and let it cool down until the pressure is goes out. Then mash the dal with salt and keep it aside.
  3. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and cumin seeds, let them splutter for a a minute.
  4. Add red chilies, hing, curry leaves, fenugreek seeds and garlic pods, fry them until the garlic pods becomes golden brown color.
  5. Then switch off the flame and pour the seasoning into the dal and mix well.

Serving Instructions

You can serve this with plain rice with ghee and papads or with roti also.
