Puri is the most common Indian bread which is popular in every household in India. In Bengali it is known as Luchi though they are not totally similar. Puri is made with whole wheat flour and does not essential require oil while kneading. While Luchi is made of Plain flour and require oil to make it pliable. Puri is mostly North Indian fare and is had with Subzis for breakfast.

Steps

  1. In a large bowl mix the whole wheat flour, salt and carom seeds.
  2. Slowly add the warm water and mix to form a dough.
  3. Knead it for 5 minutes.
  4. Cover it with a wet muslin cloth and let it rest for 10-15 minutes.
  5. Knead again for 5 minutes.
  6. Divide into 6-8 small balls.
  7. Roll out with the help of little oil.
  8. In a wok heat the oil till smoking point.
  9. Fry the puris and make sure as soon as you add it to the smoking hot oil, with a spoon dip the puri it it fluffs up.
  10. Let the other side also be fried golden brown. Do the same for all the other ones.
  11. Serve hot

Serving Instructions

Serve it hot with subzis or bhajis
