Main Ingredients Poha

Batata Poha is a very famous Maharashtrian breakfast. It is made with flat rice soaked in water and then cooked with peanuts and curry leaves. It's particularly popular as its healthy too. It requires very less oil and is a good source of carbohydrate.

  • 1 cup flat rice soaked for 2 minutes and drained
  • 1 onion finely sliced
  • 1 green chilli finely chopped
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 is a black mustard seed
  • 1 strand of curry leaves
  • 2 potatoes cubed and boiled
  • a handful of peanuts roasted and shelled
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • a pinch of asafoetida
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp oil

Steps

  1. In a wok heat 2 tbsp oil.
  2. Add the cumin seeds and mustard seeds as soon as they start to crackle add the asafoetida, green chilli and curry leaves. Sauté for a few seconds.
  3. Add the sliced onions. Fry on a low to medium flame till they are light golden brown in color.
  4. Add the potatoes, and peanuts along with salt and sugar.
  5. Mix well and cook for s minute.
  6. Add the turmeric powder and they soaked flat rice.
  7. Mix well till all the rice is colored and cook for 3-4 minutes till turmeric is cooked.
  8. Adjust salt and sprinkle the Lemon juice. Mix well
  9. serve hot.

Serving Instructions

Serve it with Chai as breakfast.
